Bed Wetting-Side Effects-Medicines
Side Effects are as under –
Medicines prescribed by the doctors have serious side effects. You can google for every medicine prescribed for bed wetting of children. There is no logic or known reasons for prescribing the medicines.
Following medicines are prescribed –
Medicine No. 1 – DDAVP (desmopressin) – Side Effects
Headache
Nausea,
Upset stomach
Flushing of the face may occur.
Desmopressin can infrequently cause a low level of sodium in the blood, which can be serious and possibly life-threatening.
Drinking too much water or other fluids increases the risk of having a low level of sodium in the blood.
Loss of appetite
Severe nausea
Vomiting
Severe headache
Muscle weakness/spasms/cramps
Sudden weight gain
Unusual tiredness
Unusual severe drowsiness
Mental/mood changes (such as confusion, hallucinations, irritability)
Loss of consciousness, seizures, slow/shallow breathing.
What are the possible side effects of desmopressin nasal (DDAVP Nasal Spray)?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using desmopressin nasal and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
nausea, vomiting, weakness, loss of appetite, headache, feeling restless or irritable,
confusion, hallucinations, muscle pain or weakness, and/or seizure;
feeling like you might pass out;
swelling;
chest pain, fast or pounding heart rate;
vaginal pain;
nosebleed; or
dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears,
anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure).
Less serious side effects may include:
runny or stuffy nose;
sore throat, cough, or other cold symptoms;
eye redness or watering;
eye itching or increased sensitivity to light;
headache, weakness;
feeling dizzy or agitated;
nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
hot or cold feeling; or
warmth, redness, or tingly feeling in your face.
Medicine No. 2 – Tricyclic antidepressants
- Dry mouth
- Dry nose
- Blurry vision
- Lowered gastrointestinal motility
- or constipation
- Urinary retention
- Cognitive and/or memory impairment
- And increased body temperature.
- Drowsiness
- Anxiety
- Emotional blunting (apathy/anhedonia)
- Confusion
- Restlessness
- Dizziness
- Akathisia
- Hypersensitivity
- Changes in appetite and weight
- Sweating
- Sexual dysfunction
- Muscle twitches
- Weakness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Hypotension
- Tachycardia
- And rarely, irregular heart rhythms
- Twitching
- Hallucinations
- Delirium and coma are also some of the toxic effects caused by overdose.[35]
- Rhabdomyolysis or muscle breakdown has been rarely reported with this class of drugs as
- well
- Discontinuation
Other two treatment options are –
Waiting and
Sound alarms to wake up the child a number of times for urination. This may interfere
with the health of child since sleeping is the most important function for young ones.
